Who gets Hay fever?

Hay fever is very common. It often develops in the teens but I have had patients as young as three with symptoms.

Symptoms return for a season each year. Hay fever symptoms have started early this year because of the mild winter we have had.

There are two kinds pollen:
  1. Airborne from trees, flowers and grasses - These are released normally from birch trees, oilseed rape and weeds like nettles and dock.
  2. Beehive pollen, which is taken from trees and flowers by the bees then mixed with the bee's secretions and are less threatening to us.
The symptoms of hay fever are runny and itchy nose, blocked nose, sneezing, itchy and watery red eyes and an itching throat. In some cases only the nose is affected and yet in other cases only eye symptoms occur. Less common symptoms are wheezing and breathlessness, which may get worse if you suffer from asthma.

It is impossible to totally avoid pollen. However, symptoms can become less severe if you reduce your exposure to pollen. Daily pollen counts are often given out by the media etc. Try and stay indoors as much as possible, and keep windows and doors shut. Avoid being near any grass cutting. Try not to go camping.

Shower and wash your hair after being outdoors, especially after walking in the countryside. Try wearing wrap-around sunglasses as wearing these may also help when you are out. Keep car windows closed.

I have found the following Neways products very useful for hay fever sufferers:
Remember the more natural products like Neways you use on your body the less likelihood of you being or becoming a severe sufferer.
